Your time is valuable and being aware of the information below will help your contact with our office run smoothly.

Our usual hours of operation are 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. Monday thru Friday and 9 A.M. to 12 noon on Saturday for urgent care only of our established patients. The office is closed for lunch every day from 12 noon until 1 P.M.

When the office is closed, one of our providers is always on call.  For after hours free medical advice you may call UNC Healthlink at 966-3820 or toll free at 888-267-3675.  If you need to speak to our provider on call after hours, please call our office number, 919-468-6820 then press 8 to be connected to our answering service. They can page the provider on call which will incur a $10.00 charge.

CELL PHONES:
Please turn off your cell phone while in our office. Cell phones interfere with certain medical equipment.

APPOINTMENTS:
SHAH AND CATCHINGS FAMILY PRACTICE reserves the right to charge $25.00 for missed appointments if cancelled less than 24 hours in advance. There will be a charge of $50.00 for all no show physicals.

As a courtesy, we attempt to call the day before your appointment to remind you. But it is your responsibility to remember the appointment you have made with our office.

If you have questions or problems to discuss, this is best handled by scheduling an appointment.

Physical exams should be scheduled at least 2 months in advance as slots are limited.

If you are running late for your appointment, please call our office to see if we can still see you or if it would be best to reschedule.

PRESCRIPTION REFILLS:
Our office needs 2 business days to respond to requests for prescription refills. If approved by the provider, the prescription refill will be called to your local pharmacy. You or your pharmacist should leave all pertinent information including the name and phone number of the pharmacy.

Mail Order Prescriptions:
We will provide you with a written prescription for you to mail to the pharmacy. We will mail the written prescription directly to you.

No routine refills will be called to your pharmacy on holidays, week ends or after hours on weekdays.

No narcotic refills will be filled after NOON on Fridays or on week ends.

Please bring all of your prescriptions to your visit and request refills when seen by your provider.

TEST RESULTS:
Any blood work or diagnostic testing will be reviewed after we receive it. Once we receive the results ,  they will be reviewed by the provider. All abnormal results will be called promptly.  You will be informed of all normal results within 7 – 10 days.

REFERRALS:
Managed care referrals generally require a visit with your primary care provider first.  Requests for follow-up visits to the specialist may sometimes be handled by a phone call. Please allow a week to handle non-emergency referrals. (2 business days is the absolute minimum to arrange the referral with your insurance company.) It is your responsibility to let our office know if you have to have a follow up visit with the specialist and a referral is needed.

MEDICAL RECORDS:
Our office needs a minimum of three (3) business days notice if you are requesting a copy of specific medical records.

Copying of complete medical records requires a two (2) week turnaround.

A proper release form must be signed by the patient before the records can be released.
