Meet our Staff


 

Susan Catchings, FNP

Susan Catchings, FNP graduated from Columbia University, New York City, in 1981 with a BSN Degree.  She went on to get her MSN/FNP from UNC-Chapel Hill School of Nursing, graduated with honors and has practiced in this area since 1993.  She is an adjunct professor and preceptor of graduate students at UNC School of Nursing and speaks at the NC Nurses Association.  Susan is active in her local professional associations (NCNA and NAPNAP) and is nationally accredited by the American Nurses Association (ANA).  She is Nationally Certified as an Asthma Educator.

Mrs. Catchings has recently taken on the Pediatric Consultant role for WRAL TV where she appears on the noon news and speaks about current pediatric topics.

Mrs. Catchings manages a panel of patients ranging from newborn to adult and her specialty is pediatrics; her responsibilities include complete physicals along with managing acute and chronically ill patients.  Mrs. Catchings has privileges at Wake Med Cary Hospital where she rounds on newborns.  Susan has a special interest in adolescent care including gynecology and STD education and prevention.

Mrs. Catchings has been married for 28 years and has three children.  She was born in Washington state where most of her extended family lives.

Dipen Shah, MD

Dipen Shah, MD is a firm believer in the motto, "Prevention is better than a cure."  He chose primary care as his career in order to institute preventive health measures.  He is a Board Certified family physician and feels privileged to take care of all age groups from newborns to great grandparents.

Dr. Shah was born and raised in India.  After graduating from medical school, he joined his wife in Cary, NC.  He was fascinated with research and worked on the "Depression and Congestive Heart Failure" study at Duke University Medical Center prior to pursuing his residency.  He completed his residency at Northeast Iowa Family Practice, an affiliate of the University of Iowa.  He served as an Academic Chief Resident from 2004 - 2005.  Prior to joining Schmidt & Catchings Family Practice, Dr. Shah practiced in Shelby, NC. 

His outside interests include playing chess, traveling, and learning about different cultures.  Above those things, however, he loves to spend time with his wife and toddler son. 
 

 

Jennifer Wilkins, FNP

Jennifer Wilkins, FNP, is a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill School of Nursing and nationally certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner since 1998. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society while earning her Masters degree. Her experiences range from ICU nursing, Internal Medicine and Family Practice.

Mrs. Wilkins provides care to patients of all ages with special interest in the prevention and treatment of diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia. She has served as an adjunct instructor for UNC-CH and has been involved in adolescent pregnancy prevention research. Her practice goals focus on all aspects of health: physical, mental and spiritual.

She is a native of Sanford, NC and has lived in the Triangle since college. Mrs. Wilkins is married to her high school sweetheart, James, and has two young children, Margaret and Sam. Pumpkin, a red dachshund, is the most recent addition to her family.

Most of her free time is spent with her family, but she is very active with music, clogging, scrap booking and is an avid UNC fan.

 

Bryan Thompson, FNP

Bryan Thompson, FNP, received a BS in Nursing from UNC-Wilmington in 2000. She has worked as a nurse in Critical Care and most recently on the Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at UNC Hospitals. She completed her MSN/FNP from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2008. She is a member of nursing professional associations (ANA and NCNA) and is nationally certified by the ANCC. Mrs. Thompson manages patients of all ages incorporating physical, mental and psychosocial aspects of health in her care. She especially enjoys using patient education as a key component of maintaining and improving patient’s health.

Mrs. Thompson is a native of Raleigh, NC. She has been married for 6 years and has two young daughters, Bailey and Riley. She loves spending time with her family on the water during the summer and cheering for the Tarheels in the fall and winter.
